Welcome to Sally's Apizza, a beloved gem nestled in the heart of New Haven, Connecticut. This pizza restaurant is renowned not just for its delicious offerings but for its rich history and a loyal following that spans generations.

The atmosphere at Sally's is both vibrant and cozy, embodying the quintessential charm of a classic pizzeria. As you step inside, the mouthwatering aroma of coal-fired pizza fills the air, instantly tantalizing your taste buds. Expect to see a mix of locals and visitors eagerly awaiting their turn, as the restaurant's popularity often results in a bustling wait. The excitement in the air only heightens your anticipation for the culinary experience that lies ahead.

The wait may be long, but the payoff is fantastic; the menu boasts a selection of artisanal pizzas that cater to diverse palates. Consider indulging in the LG Basil Burrata, a harmonious blend of Sally’s signature tomato sauce, fresh basil, and creamy burrata that dances across your taste buds with every bite at $29.50. Or perhaps the LG NH Original Clam, featuring mozzarella paired perfectly with fresh, succulent clams and garlic for a delightful savory adventure at $29.75. Each pizza is crafted with precision, offering a combination of textures and flavors that ultimately leaves a lasting impression.

For a seasonal delight, don't miss the LG SEASONAL Bacon Apple Mozzarella, where the sweet and savory collide in a topping duet of Granny Smith apples, gorgonzola, and crispy bacon for just $25.50. These carefully curated toppings are just a glimpse into what makes Sally’s so special—their dedication to quality ingredients and passionate craftsmanship clearly shines through.

For dessert aficionados, the treats don’t end at pizza. Be sure to save room for the Tiramisu, a luxurious creation with espresso-soaked lady fingers and mascarpone drizzled with love, priced at $10. Or indulge in the delightful Cannoli Pie at $9, which combines the rich filling of cannoli in a pie crust, a perfect ending to your dining experience.

Customer reviews echo the sentiment that dining at Sally's is not merely a meal but an experience. As one satisfied guest, Renauld, noted, "the food is top-notch, and the entire experience lives up to the hype that so many people talk about." Another patron, Aditya, praised the "amazing sauce" that is “incredibly flavored and fresh,” recommending the Basil Pizza for those who want to taste the restaurant's signature flair. However, not every review sings praises; some diners, like Christine, felt that the flavors didn't quite match those of competitors, making for an interesting balance of opinions that underlines the subjective nature of culinary experiences.

Ultimately, Sally's Apizza stands out as a culinary institution in New Haven, drawing visitors and locals alike with its mouth-watering pizza and inviting atmosphere. Preparing for a visit? Arrive early and be ready to savor the incredible flavors that await you. Whether you're a New Haven local or a curious traveler, a stop at Sally's should undoubtedly be on your itinerary—a delicious piece of pizza paradise that lives up to its reputation.

I was in New Haven for the Labor Day weekend, so I had to try both Sally's and Frank Pepe on this visit. Both had long lines so there was no way we could dine in for either with the limited time we had. So for both places we got them as a takeout. Sally's takeout was so difficult to get. They limit the number of takeout orders by different time slots of the day. From the opening time, me and the others in the group constantly checked the website/ordering system to put our order in, but it kept closing. We were finally able to put in our order after about an hour, and this was the result of checking the page minute after minute for the ordering page to become available. It was like trying to buy a Labubu. When we got there by the original ETA, we had to wait an additional 25 minutes to finally get our pizza. We got the Mozz & Sauce pie and the Basil Burrata pie. The good: their sauce is amazing on both. It's not salty and it's not bland, with so much depth and richness in the tomato sauce that got me wondering how they aged the sauce. I loved both pies, but if I had to choose just one, it'd be the Mozz & Sauce since there's not much Burrata cheese in the Basil pie. The not so good: since we were waiting right there to get the takeout and consumed it immediately in their parking lot, we expected the pie to be burning hot. However, it was just warm at best. There was no stretching of the cheese when the slices were taken apart. I could hold a slice perfectly without it bending since it was already hardened. We were talking amongst ourselves whether Sally's intentionally lets the pie sit to cool before handing them over to customers for either safety (burning the mouth) or to encourage dining in. Regardless, it was a bit disappointing and would have been much better if the pizza was hotter. All in all, I enjoyed all the slices and would love to try dining in next time I have more time to spend in New Haven.

Myself and a group of 3 friends flew up from Miami 8:00 am just to make it here by lunch. I can’t begin to explain how good this pizza was. The service was fantastic. They had an old timer greeting us while we waited outside, and he really did make us feel comfortable and at home (nice touch). The gentlemen recommended we order “The Fire Bird”. It did not disappoint. Aside from getting yourself an original cheese, you must order this fire bird!! Amazing spot. My favorite pizza on the planet thus far. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! I would hopefully love to come here again someday. The flight was worth it, the wait was worth it. The day was a 10/10.

I’m pretty disappointed with this place. I’ll start by saying the pizza does not have as much flavor as Frank Pepe’s. We ordered the small mozzarella & sauce and paid $20. It was too thin and we had to load it up with Parmesan, garlic, red pepper and oregano to truly enjoy it. It was 100% not worth the hype or the price. Skip Sally’s and go to Franks (check out my review for Franks!) The story for those who read and want the hack - We drove 2 hours to eat at Sally’s and Frank Pepe’s. We started with Sally’s because the reviews weren’t as good and we wanted to start with mediocre and work our way up to amazing. After standing in line for 12 minutes, I read a review that the takeout is significantly faster (~40 min). There are plenty of park benches nearby that you can take it to and eat & that’s honestly what majority of people were doing. There’s even a trash can just for pizza boxes!! I ordered the takeout for 1 small pizza. It said it would be ready in 40 minutes. We walked around the area until 45 minutes had passed and then we returned. They told us it would be another 10 minutes. When we finally got our pizza, the people who I had been standing in line behind were 3rd in line. Also, a tip for those who have stayed with me to the end is that the guy at the takeout counter said to call, it’s even faster than ordering online.

Sally's is one of the big 3 here in CT and each pizza spot does something incredible that others don't. For Sally's, it's the sauce. It's so incredibly flavored and fresh! I highly recommend getting the Basil Pizza, the cheese melts right in with the sauce, and the pesto is a great fresh touch. The pros: amazing sauce, friendly service The cons: insanely long lines (we waited almost 2 hours to sit, and another 30-35 for the pizzas after sitting) They mix online orders with restaurant orders so truthfully you're better off ordering for takeout if you can, rather than waiting the full 2hrs in line. But the freshness of the sauce might be worth it!

If you’re in New Haven, Sally’s Pizza is absolutely worth the stop. The food is top-notch, and the entire experience lives up to the hype that so many people talk about. I finally had the chance to try it, and it did not disappoint. The pizza comes out fresh and hot, but honestly, I think it tastes even better after it’s had a few minutes to sit—when all the flavors have a chance to blend and marinate together. A little garlic and fresh Parmesan on top, and you’re in business. The next day leftovers? Even better. We didn’t have to wait too long—about 30 minutes—and the atmosphere made it an easy wait. Inside, it’s got that classic New Haven pizza vibe: casual, lively, and full of people who know they’re about to eat something special. Overall, just a fantastic experience with great food, great atmosphere, and flavors that only get better with time. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Been thinking about pizza for a while, hence decided to drive to New Haven (CT). The drive was about 2 hours plus. The wait in the line was another 2 hours plus. The pizza arrived about 30 minutes after I was seated & placed the order. I invested 5 hours for pizza (not counting the drive back). Not just any pizza, but pizza in New Haven (CT), arguably the best pizza town in America. Not just any pizza, but pizza at Sally’s, perhaps amongst the top three pizza joints in New Haven (CT). But 5 hours ? Yes, 5 hours because it is so good. The long wait time may perhaps also be because Sally’s has just one small coal fired oven (probably the same since 1938) and serves both sit down customers and takeout orders. I ordered three small pies (thin charred crust). Tomato Pie (not the red pizza sauce, just crushed fresh tomato) Clam Pizza (don’t hate it till you try it) Potato & Rosemary Pie (don’t hate it till you try it) In 1938, the most expensive pie at Sally’s was $1.50. It is not dollar fifty anymore, but these pies and the crowds outside Sally’s have endured so far. After I got home, I placed the leftover slices (in the box) on the kitchen counter for a very short time. The whole house had that wonderful New Haven charred crust pizza aroma (so good).

Sally's is an experience! Hard to get into, so come early and be prepared to wait. But, it is definitely worth it. The tomato pie is amazing, as well as every pie that make in their coal fired oven. Definitely worth trying and highly recommend for your New Haven pizza experience.
